I saw the latest preview of the third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Very cool with lots of action, just like the others.

I am planning to go to a midnight showing. Lots of fun. Have you noticed all of the movies today using cgi. All of the top selling movies have been using cgi for a while.

Titanic, LOTR, Star wars, and Pirates. I bet when these movies came out you have a lot of college students change their majors to animation, visual arts, graphic design, visual communication, film & video production.  Some of the choice places to get the training is Collins College Contact Form

To me they are designed to be entertaining, I am all for that.  I wish it Pirates would get here sooner.

CGI - Computer-generated imagery
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Computer-generated imagery (often abbreviated to CGI) is the application of the field of computer graphics (or more specifically, 3D computer graphics) to special effects in films, television programs, commercials and printed media. Video games usually use real-time computer graphics (rarely referred to as CGI), but may also include pre-rendered "cut scenes" and intro movies that would be typical CGI applications. These are referred to as FMV.

CGI is used for visual effects because the quality is often higher and effects are more controllable than other more physically based processes, such as constructing miniatures for effects shots or hiring extras for crowd scenes, and because it allows the creation of images that would not be feasible using any other technology. It can also allow a single artist to produce content without the use of actors, expensive set pieces, or props.

Computer software such as Maya and Soft image XSI are used to make computer-generated imagery for movies, etc. Recent accessibility of CGI software and increased computer speeds has allowed individual artists and small companies to produce professional grade films, games, and fine art from their home computers. This has brought about an Internet subculture with its own set of global celebrities, clichés, and technical vocabulary.

Anyone want to work in CGI for movies???

Cheers
